The minimum focusing distance is the Pentax 18-135, however, almost twice as far as the almost doubled focal length does not help much further - keyword "focal loss by internal focusing." But except for close-ups, I see the additional zoom range as significant bonus to the telephoto I reach now much rarer. At the long end, the Pentax is weakening mainly by an almost dramatic vignetting at maximum aperture, but if you know that, you can even use it as a stylistic device. Distortion and chromatic aberrations are typical zoom depending on the subject practically at all focal lengths greater or lesser extent, but never (zer) disturbing present and with tools like Gimp lensfun absolutely satisfactory to correct - better than with in-camera correction. And if I'm honest: I printed no posters, I could actually save myself.
One aspect which me something thoughtful true: The DA 18-135 pulls and pushes when zooming much air through the camera. I hope that the housing at the inlet and outlet includes an air filter (the K5 II with me), otherwise in the long run end up a lot of dust in the lens and the mirror box. Someone here knows any details on whether and how Pentax makes provisions against contamination?
All in all, I got to know the possibilities of my Pentax lens with this new and appreciate. I would recommend it highly!
