I remember well that this (at that time in light gray vinyl) was my first plates at all, which I bought at that time (1984), because the song "People Are People" just for the Olympic Games permanently on the radio to the TV ran. I was - and am still - to make absolutely thrilled by this kind of electronic music. Who else has so much experimenting with everyday or unconventional noises - if I'm not mistaken, Depeche Mode were even one of the first groups that sounds like the bubbling of water running off, ever used as a song intro. Besides "People Are People", "Master and Servant" and "Blasphemous Rumours" have been more famous and successful songs. "It does not matter" and "Somebody" are two great ballads, not only written by ML Gore, but also sung. Although D.Gahan and ML Gore have two completely different voices, so they have that used more appropriately. Ever one should again emphasize the Qulitäten of Gore as a songwriter just for this record. Almost every text tells a unique and sometimes even personal history and so enriched a band that shines not just by the musical side. (This is an Amazon.com at the university-student review.)
