The helmet (size 51-55cm) we bought for our child. Until now we had no experience, what to look for when buying helmets. Now we know it ;-)
First of the helmet for a head circumference of 52 cm is too big, the helmet will look strange. It's something like when you buy a jacket of variable size S-XL. Imagine how you would (size S) look so! Not nice? Ah come on, there are removable padding - the jacket fits yet! ... This is the first point that you can still be regarded as "a matter of taste".
If the size can of course only the helmet with padding (included) wear. The concept of padding is very bad in this helmet. The rather narrow cushion strips keep well and not be carried away with the cap undress. If you wear the helmet without cap, is the contact with the helmet in only three places, where the narrow cushion strips are: front, rear and top. At the places you will naturally perspire heavily. Furthermore, the helmet because of bad padding concept for all is not suitable, the long hair have. The long hair stick to the Velcro fasteners stick - have fun taking off!
The last point is that the helmet does not "continuously variable adjustment system for a secure and comfortable fit" has (quote from the helmet description of "Melon Urban Active" helmet. The model of ABUS "ABUS Children's Bicycle Helmet Scraper Kid" has such a thing. This is a very useful device below the rear of the helmet. We were here on Saturday at the store and have looked at some helmets, tried and compared. To our surprise, all models had had (especially of Melon and ABUS) very nice padding was distributed over the entire inner surface of the helmet: worlds better than the Giro.
I'd say so, if you have three helmets on the table: ABUS, Melon and Giro - you will never opt for the helmet by Giro.
My recommendation: only times stop by a shop with an extensive range of helmets before buying one.
I had to return the Giro helmet.
