the Byrds build here on the diversity of "fith dimension of 1966.
the grupee characterized by catchy chorus and great singing and the wonderful 12-string guitars made. their sound was defined by very many directions and changed significantly in their careers.
the first song "So You Want to be a rockn roll star" ridiculed skillfully tennypopbands as the monkeys, which had huge success playing on their plates without itself. (Although at the Byrds McGuinn only when hit "mr. Tambourine man" has starred ;-)
on the track there is a memorable trumpet part with Hugh masekela- the first blower at the Byrds.
at "CTA 102" experiment with futuristic sound effects (for 1967 maintenance).
first serious try within the country came with Hillman's "Time Between" (the later Byrd Clarence White) and "The girl with no name" to the fore.
David Crosby wrote the sparkling "Renaissance Fair", as well as the absolutely timeless "everybodys been burned." this song is for me the best thing ever made the Byrds: Crosby's crystal clear, emotive voice, complemented by Hillman's flowing bass and an awesome subtle guitar solos of McGuinn (a real expert).
Crosby psychodelisches swagger in "mind garden" is frankly less successful, rather a matter of taste.
but when dylancover the guys to play it safe, the painful "My Back Pages" was the inspiration for the title and plates brings a world-class, beautiful solos by McGuinn with it.
Conclusion: From today's perspective certainly one of the best discs Byrds, aged well, ambitious diversity, wonderful performance and timeless songs. a great start for beginners, especially since the remaster is also done quite well ... clear 5 star for a classic !!
