Fourteen karat (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Who knows carat? Or. Who knows about your title "Over seven bridges you have to go"? What? He does not come from Peter Maffay? No, people, it is the original of carats. But the titles have some sung, including Xavier Naidoo. Only I ask myself: What's so great about this title? I honestly do not to this day. When I then sang it at school I did not like him already. Even as we sang better, including "Light My Fire" by The Doors.

Now why is carat still interesting? You can not only be hit way, but also - in relative terms - really rocking. But that's not all, because they have more in stock. But first in order.

The first piece that I have heard from those who had the title "Every hour", which often resulted in the meantime become mainstreamigeren Radio 21 earlier. "Every hour" is a real rocker in contrast to the aforementioned ballad. As I said, relatively speaking. Class is the use of the harmonica, as well as the slow, sluggish construction at the beginning. But there is even more icing on the cake. "The Blue Planet" is a ballad, but much better composed and arranged. Therefore, you also spared the pop Representative. The text is also very romantic, but not cheesy. Genial is the voluminous bass and atmospheric keyboards. "Thundershower" While starts quite trendy, but has solely by the text atmosphere. In addition, 7/8 rhythms, coupled with 3 / 4- and 3/8-rhythms are used. A style characteristic of progressive rock. For the music the way keyboardist Ed Ulrich Swillms is responsible, while the lyrics are mostly written by Norbert Kaiser, who is not an active member of the band. "Every hour" is as an exceptional case, because singer Herbert Dreilich was also next to the Kaiser text with at work. The other two exceptions are "King of the World" and "Evening" is. The former was of Kurt Demmler (died on 09.Februar 2009 suicide) written, while the text of "Evening" by Burkhard Lasch (He texted for, among other things the Puhdys and Stern Combo Meissen) originates.

Then follows already the absolute highlight. This in turn influenced by the progressive rock "Albatros". This 8-minute film is due to its structure, dramaturgy, his changing moods, his emotional singing and his bombast, as well as the classical elements already constitute a reason to buy this album. "King of the World" I think lyrically totally embarrassed compositionally I like it nevertheless. A new ballad halt. Not exceptional, but nothing totally superfluous. With "on the seas" is followed by a dominated by a bass line tracks with reggae-like sprinklings on the electric guitar. The sluggish, very haunting rhythm makes the six-minute-long title to something special. Again, the atmosphere is right again by unobtrusive keyboard carpets that stand out in the middle part with the guitar bit to the forefront in order to bring in more dynamics, before the piece returns to its fascinating, sluggish rhythm structure.

After popping the hard rockers "The Ship of Fools" from the speakers. With dirty song and a strange-acting synth interlude. "Puppet" is a gimmick title, again with synth gimmicks. It follows again a longer title, "The Seven Wonders of the World". Sluggish rhythm of drums, bass and distorted electric guitars, slow but very insistent vocals. These solos of synthesizer which then reminds me of Barclay James Harvest's "In Memory Of The Martyrs". However, the piece does not deviate from its basic rhythm, but penetrates deeper into the ear canals. "Ice Flower" is then shorter and conventional. The song begins quietly with keyboards and acoustic guitars, then unfolds but as a true rocker with powerful e-guitar and piano riffs.

The very slow "Magical Light" again conspicuous by a grandiose keyboard arrangement. With "Swan King" follows a piano ballad with crucial Bass. Guitar solos values the piece addition. "Evening" is initially provided only with vocals and keyboards. Only later are in addition also drums, bass and guitar. Again give synthesizer melodies the song the finishing touches. A successful but unspectacular ending this "Best Of" album.

Conclusion: "Over seven bridges you have to go" is a total failure here, "King of the World" is bad at the border. Otherwise, above average to great titles contained on this CD. Normally I hate them "Best Of" albums, but here me this sampler has brought a great insight into the music of Karat. Whether the regular studio albums still come up with huge firecrackers I do not know. For this sliver There are jeodoch an unequivocal "thumbs up"!
