This, the 2012, despite commercial promises, is still lagging far behind the current software technologies in terms of quality and ergonomics.
On the merits, Universalis refers, of course.
But it is a shame that the DVD edition of finishes are not more accomplished after so many edited versions.
I regret in particular:
- Low quality (resolutions still far too low!). On the screen, they appear "dirty". (Do not even try to zoom!)
- The screens and menus are sometimes poorly designed / buggy and show the windows that you do not expect.
(When I click on the "from you to us" button on the homepage, the Help window opens, instead of a contact form: now it comes to the home page! !)
- The "card room" is a good idea, but it hosts a limited number of cards
- Height of the discomfort, the media player animated maps does not move in time! You can only start playback and pause.
- A very annoying bug about the size of the displayed characters, making some unreadable articles.
etc.
Encyclopedia Universalis must obviously fight against competition from the internet that makes freely available to all a thousand times more information than the DVD may contain poor. But it spoils all its competitive advantages (mainly its editorial quality and brand).
Its budget is certainly limited, but please do not apologize amateurism perceived from the start of the n-th edition of the famous encyclopedia on DVD.
Shame.
