With Godmother tells Carolyn Turgeon (Mermaid, Fairest of them all) a very unusual variant of Cinderella.
The old, self-reliant Lillian works as an assistant in a small Antiquariat in sleepiest part of Manhattan. No one suspects that they hid under their clothes huge swing from snow-white feathers that they closely pressed every morning to the body and bandaged to protect their secret.
Lillian lives as outcasts in our world. Once she was a fairy and lived with her sisters in a magical parallel world. But then she committed a horrific crime and was punished. Robbed of their magic and separated from the man she loves, she has lived in exile for centuries among us humans. Their fate has made them jaded and bitter. Then learn Lil someday know the young, sparkling with life Veronica, who dreams of the great love and a prince, whom she can give her heart.
In Lillian to hope suggests: Can they Veronica transform into a second Cinderella and fix the mistake they committed hundreds of years ago, so? Can it with a good deed for the atonement, which she has then done? Cancels a human happy ending to Feenfluch lying on Lillian and redeemed them out of existence as a human being?
Godmother A Secret Cinderella Story is the story of Cinderella Patenfee. She plays in the New York of the present day, in every chapter there but flashbacks in Lillian's past, which gradually reveal what is happening at that time at that time. So Carolyn Turgeon spins slowly an enchanted story that probably the most famous fairy tales in the world reclaims a new page.
It is Turgeons first real Fairy Tale Fantasy, although I have read this only after Mermaid (their version of The Little Mermaid) and Fairest of Them All (you Mash Up of Rapunzel and Snow White). As Mermaid lives Godmother of its atmosphere: that is here slightly melancholy, evoking the dusty books in the bookseller, where Lillian works. Unlike in the Mermaid Twist the original story here is, however, very clearly noticeable. And that makes the novel worth reading.
Really great, however, especially that the mood of the novel in the last quarter again tilts and history illuminated from a new, sinister light. Haunting !, as the English say.
At Fairest of them All he reaches indeed m. E. not approach, but Godmother A Secret Cinderella Story is original and laid fairytale Cinderella or fans with a clear conscience to the heart.
