It is understood that the Genesis' 80s is no longer the historical Genesis, who, from 1971 to 1976, from Trespass to Wind & Wuthering), overwhelmed with delight fans of progressive rock. This applies in the studio and live as tends to show very professional Three Sides Live, offering third concert of the now trio.

Perhaps because Daryl Stuermer is not Steve Hackett (EDM open door, I know), most probably because the required changes driven by the drastic reduction in the line-up in its acceptance studio, simplification and modernization writing and sound of the group to continue to exist as anything other than the ghost of his own past, profoundly redefined the situation.
Now then, when it comes to a successor to the impeccable Seconds Out, Genesis did with the weapons he then possessed, those training favoring a more pop writing, but professionalism and no denials application reproduce, direct the soul of charge extra, so his music without completely forgetting, via a few well-chosen excerpts if less inhabited, which made his legend, especially in the version "Four Sides Live" available from the 1994 remasters This new edition saw himself cut off from his studio facing (the content is available on the cabinet from 1976 to 1982) to replace and even better than that! It was gloriously increased by three key tracks, including a The tastiest of all, It offers a medley and Watcher of the Skies captured in 1976 with Hackett and Bill Bruford always present in drumkit, excitement guaranteed!
The rest of the selection, with the exception of Afterglow and potpourri "old-school" In the Cage / The Cinema Show / The Colony of Slippermen, focuses on the three albums released since the departure of Hackett. This is inevitably a little less exciting but nonetheless has some very beautiful moments compensating the side "greatest hits" of the rest of the tracklist. Particularly preferred versions Dodo / Lurker and Abacab, we also like the inclusion of Duchess and Me and Sarah Jane was necessarily more doubts on Turn It On Again, a Behind the Lines, a Follow You Follow Me and Misunderstanding, all signs that times are changing, certainly not for the best but not necessarily for the worse so far, at least not yet. Because Genesis at this point of his career remains a combo that can do on stage and that, ultimately, this new mainstream momentum it going pretty well complexion (and the voice of Collins).
Technically, sound clarity and power is held here and enjoy the best live capture of the group before. It is regrettable that this is not a unique concert performance but mainly collected at various concerts Abacab tour, but it was already the case on Seconds Out and even Genesis Live where The Return of the Giant Hogweed from other than the rest of the concert offered securities. Well mounted, well mixed, the illusion is almost perfect ... but remains an illusion, an artificial assembly of a performance with only formally never existed.

Still, as Three Sides Live, excellent complement its two predecessors in the year, is a quality live by a group course of his almost done and is in full possession of his creative force. The suite will be significantly less glorious but that's another story ...
