What more could you as expect? This new double CD with 20 (!) New songs falls somewhere in between. In the CD inner sleeve, the Implied photo of a Bösendorfer grand piano and, among others, a being sharpened Fender symbolically on the musical attitude towards that Knopfler hereby Wohlwill visually clear. First of all: success!
"Seattle" at the end of the 1st CD is an absolute highlight. This song could well originate from "Shangri-La". Very nice, this flowing relaxed musical sequence with the typical Knopfler fine guitar playing.
On "Privateering" (mutatis mutandis privateers shaft, privateering ...) dominate blues approaches and Irish folk bonds. It is a very successful beautiful album. Basically, as you would expect at a high level. However, I do not fall into euphoria. This CD is true but now times my taste. Others call it "Bar-music", but I love Knopfler's style. Anyway, I did not expect just that. And that is why I am with "Privateering" very happy. Now I hear Mark Knopfler not day in and day, but this album ranks again handily on my shelf a.
CD 2 also provides a highlight. The "Radio City Serenade" is also back as a flowing song in "Shangri-La style". Also, the song "Dream Of The Drowned Submariner".
For overall quality remains to mention that you "Privateering" a few times "warm hear" must. But songs like "Redbud Tree" and "Haul Away" yet offer spontaneously the "wow factor". That's exactly what we have always loved to Knopfler. First cream ...
Incidentally, there's actually not a bad song. The title song "Privateering" on CD One has the consistently present on this album quiet line, but surprised with fulminant intermediate parts.
"Gator Blood" is a fine blues, the Stones might have 50 years ago can inspire (keyword: Muddy Waters). All in all not a "British" Album of the British. Mark Knopfler served here very clearly sent the musical American roots (Today Is Okay!) No, no, "Bar-music" ... I call it just succeeded. And the Irish moments provide nice splash of color. A calming rock solid and relaxing music away from unfortunately becoming interchangeable musical life.
This CD can be heard very well. I can therefore here again, 3 years after "Get Lucky", awarded five stars and highly recommend this CD as a "good buy".
"But Today Is Okay, Todays just fine ..." A new "guiding principle" for this music. Similar to "Get Lucky"! Yes. This CD makes you happy ...
