Committed because, as the title where children's voices scrolls a list of names litany, it is to denounce black children killed by US police. Committed because it is about this other way to tell the violence of internment for life of a girl of sixteen, all manifestations of the excesses of American society made of excesses. Artistically engaged, and above all, because it's a musical and poetic journey, protean and personal qu'Akinmusire invites us with his four accomplices.
A journey where the eye sometimes looks to the now classic forms of French impressionist music of the early twentieth century but explores mostly left blank as so many musical avenues possible where the young man can leave the power of his imagination s' express. There is no magic in this album a bit fierce determination to make nine new. Only the desire to do something new if it is beautiful and it tells something premium, and that means immediately. It's as enthralled listening to these sometimes disturbing pieces and plays, many of which reveal the richness and subtlety.
Great art perfectly captured again.
