A creative language called Jazz

The bassist Charlie Haden, became known as a member of the Ornette Coleman Quartet and then active with many larger (Liberation Music Orchestra) and smaller formations, had early a taste for chamber music, intimate game, which is made clear on this CD.

Originally launched in 1976 as a double LP with eight duets, can be found on this CD four titles. "Closeness" is for Charlie Haden a part of the creative process, the feeling of being the life natural to feel the need to feelings in a creative language, the Jazz to express, to be closely connected to others who also creative music as use language.

The others are in this case the pianist Keith Jarrett, saxophonist Ornette Coleman, the pianist and harpist Turiya Alice Coltrane, deceased in 2007, and the percussionist Paul Motian.

"Ellen David" is a thanksgiving to Charlie Haden's wife, makes a major contribution in the Keith Jarrett to the quiet mood. With "OC" it comes in freer climes. The harp is not very often found in jazz. In his composition "For Turiya" Charlie Haden enters into an exciting dialogue with John Coltrane's widow.

The last piece, "For A Free Portugal" is based on an experience Charlie Haden, which he made in 1971 during a concert in the then dictatorial Portugal. The cassette recording of his announcement in Lisbon that his arrest had the consequence he has just interwoven in this recording as shots that the Angolan Liberation Army had created in 1968. Charlie Haden is a political animal.
