A deserved award

Fabio left Italy long ago. He became a boxer and he takes more hits than it gives. But one that leaves him standing KO, it is not the ring that cash. At the end of the fight, his brother Giovanni awaits. They are seen for over ten years. Giovanni did not come alone. He is with his father. In an urn. He wants his brother accompanies the little Fiat déglinguée they inherited father's ashes to repatriate.
One day I heard a very glowing review of a previous album of Alfred. It was "not game I will die." I flipped, but the drawings, summary enough, did not attract me at all. Still, I was curious. I bought it and I have not regretted it. This story had really blown me.
I learned that "Come Prima" had won the first prize of the prestigious festival of Angoulême. So I did not hesitate and I immersed myself in this graphic novel (a form which I love), which takes us on the road, as a kind of road movie, but also puts us at the heart of a camera Enclosed which puts face to face the enemy brothers.
The story is interesting. Eventful, it will place on the way the characters, strange beings: there is an unworthy master a dog tied to a tree, a paranoid motorcyclist who feels responsible for an accident, a former priest resistant, a curious car thief, a ... but no, I stop there my list, go discover them, they will surprise you!
Fabio left his village and his family as a teenager. Why? When Giovanni tells him: "I came with Daddy," he replies, "Your worst idea for ten years." Why?
Cutting boards is fairly standard. But suddenly appear completely different pages. They are reminiscent of linocuts in three colors. The background is cream. These are the memories of the brothers. They will teach us little by little, it happened. The same boards meet regularly over narrative. But gradually, they complement. Only the last page of volume that we will know the word end of the story.
I found these passages very aesthetic, very different from the somewhat clumsy drawing that describes this. Therein, the faces, for example, are rather coarse. Eyebrows, thick, give the impression of a scribble as children do.
However, the colors are beautiful. The first night meeting takes place on red backgrounds that change, thereafter, in blue tones.
On page 50, there is such a mixture of present and past. The sky, which covers two-thirds of the image is in cream, which made me think that the two brothers were enemies on the way to their memories. That their trip would be in space but also in time.
A meeting marked me. It is located on pages 131 to 138. A woman hanging sheets. Gradually, they invade the entire space. The last board is almost entirely white.
And then, a double page is devoted only to the clouds: one of the characters, lying on his back, contemplating the sky. Another shows the distorted view which is that of Fabio, lost in the mists of alcohol. And ...
I stop here. Rush on this book. You will not be disappointed.
I, in any case, I loved it.
