For me, the Wheel of Time saga takes momentum that from Volume 3. And then it becomes epic. This Volume 1 starts a little difficult, and looks like a pale copy of Tolkien: small nice guys pursued by black riders and aided by a magician. Yet there is action, it is epic. And the end is very hectic. The author appesentit too much on psychology low-level characters who did it compare to the Barbara Cartland fantasy. But we gladly forgive him as magic is colorful.
