All this to tell you how much I had high expectations of this volume. After two consecutive heart strokes caused by Heirs and The Snow Queen, I was afraid to be a little disappointed. The purpose is never easy and often it or break it. So let's stop beating around the bush: this third volume perfectly closes the saga, it is as good as the other two and I found everything I expected, and more. I now feel as sad and abandoned that when I end a saga that I have for years, while the trilogy will Outrepasseurs accompanied me a little months or less.
Once again, I loved finding all the characters, good as bad. Because this is also the strength of the story of Cindy van Wilder, his characters are nuanced, anything but Manichean, and even the "bad guys" can move you. I had a big heart for the Hermeline and Hersent duo, who like the other one really moved me in this volume (and that, that means that I cried like a child) even if the others are not far behind, although the Hunter remains my favorite.
Moreover, we find at the beginning of each chapter a few lines about the past of the Hunter. I had to do violence to not turn the pages hurriedly to read its history in one go, having not wait to learn more about this being so special. Hunter really is a great character, a good many of these true nuanced wicked that is sure to capture readers, whether for good or evil. I personally loved to hate him, and if I started feeling disgust and hatred towards him in the first volume, before having a little sorry for him, even to sympathize with his fate in the second, I finally understand the reading this third volume. Really, the Hunter is a character that will remain in my memory.
There is really only good in this last volume. the pace is still supported, every action is timely and is very hard to put the book (to sleep, for example). the fantasy is always mingled both in fairy tales, which intertwine in turn the world as we know it credibly. This is really what I enjoyed from beginning to end, and I am once again conquered by the great ideas of Cindy Van Wilder, as well as its plot, its characters and his pen. In all, yes, absolutely. It's not a heart for nothing, after all!
As for the end ... What say? It left me completely bewildered. But in a good way! I want to say that I did not want to leave the world of the author, I wanted more even though it's a beautiful ending. However, it leaves hope for a suite or at least Cindy Van Wilder does not completely close the doors of his universe. And whatever she does, I'll be waiting for you! And of course, thank you to Goodreads and Gulf Stream Editor for this partnership!
