The processing of E-520 I find exemplary. The case makes a high-quality and stable impression. The camera suits me very well in the hand and the controls are easy to reach. Only the zoom ring on the lens I find a bit too narrow and the body of the rotary knob is missing me forward, but you can at this price range do not expect that. The E-520 offers an extraordinary number of useful features and options that are rarely found in DSLR-Beginner class otherwise. For example, pixel mapping, advanced WB settings, anti-shake in the body and much more.
Exposure Safety impressed me in the E-520 in particular. Hardly an image overexposed or underexposed. Even the portraits in backlight and no fill flash are surprisingly good and not too contrasty. The color reproduction in the default Natural colors "I find almost perfectly with a very slight Rotstisch, but makes the picture a little warmer and not really hurt. The image quality at ISO 100 to 400 is very good, from ISO 800 noise increases, however, to more and at ISO 1600, the images are only either very noisy, with no noise reduction, or ultra-soft flushed from the average noise reduction level. Since the smaller area of the sensor makes a negative impact. Also the viewfinder image is through the small FourThirds sensor quite small and not comparable to the enormous viewfinder of Pentax K20D.
The E-520 has only three AF sensors, the AF speed is but really fast. Compared to my Pentax K20D can be found at E-520 and the camera dissolves less Nachruckeln accordingly faster. That would be just fine so if not for the fact that in my model, particularly in the wide-angle range, ie at 20mm focal length, a photo is hardly really sharp. The AF module in my camera refuses to somehow find the right focus point in the wide-angle. However, if I manually focusing, I get absolutely clear images, so it's probably not a mistake on the lens optics. So I once again caught a Monday device.
Still, there are some criticisms in the display E-520th From the beginning there with me one, clearly visible, dead pixels rather in the middle. In addition, the color reproduction of the display is far from optimal. While it is possible that Farbthemperatur the display and adjust the brightness, but I do not get optimal results. Color reproduction and contrast are absolutely wrong compared to the calibrated monitor of a computer.
Also, I find it a pity that there is no zoom option in the preview after triggering. In order to check the sharpness, I must therefore explicitly go to the image display mode and zooming after each triggering. But you can also set the camera so that it is equal to changes in the image display mode after each triggering. In the second variant you can indeed equal hinenzoomen to check the sharpness, but in this setting no further activations are now possible, but only after a break of about 2-3 seconds. This situation is anything but user friendly.
Admittedly, the latter criticisms are actually just little things but is there potential improvement. The problem with the wrong focus, however, is much more serious and testifies to a lack of quality control. Would not the fehlfokus I would give the E-520 with the 14-42 kit lens four star and declare the parcel to my personal cost / value for money, however, has returned my camera or exchanged. And that's why I prefer the lack of build quality yet a ZIP code.
