Francis Rapp makes us understand the formation and evolution of the Empire, from an aggregate of such different peoples and regions. He explains, through the reign and personality of its emperors, links and clashes with the Holy See, with its impact on the role of the emperor. It also gives us a good overview of the economic and scientific success of Germany, and its artistic wealth. The Holy Roman Empire is a beautiful book, well written, well built, which may seem a bit short. I think it is for us to deepen with other readings. Read this book! This is more than a history book is an essay on the birth and tribulations of a nation. (Attention, a small error crept page 251. At least, I think! I read Edward III, instead of Edward VII.)
