XCOM: EU has become a very good game and based on the eponymous predecessor from 1994. Fans of the classic will recognize much, but - in addition to the graphical update - so also experience some change. More on this below.

For all newcomers XCOM:
The scenario of XCOM is an alien invasion of Earth. Man himself is the head of XCOM and need this invasion retaliate. This is accomplished by fighting the aliens in various missions. At the same time you have to ensure that the Council, which is our funders, is satisfied and the population not too panics. Leaving too many countries because of the panic the Council, the game is lost - and that can happen faster than you think thoughtless action.

The game is a turn-based strategy, which is based on 2 phases.

Phase 1 is a global strategy mode, where you have to expand its base and provide research and production in order. In addition to managing it as possible to leave no UFOs get away with it and the global Satelitennetzwerk its interceptors. All this costs money and valuable resources and who is not going on with care, is quickly bankrupt because money is scarce.

Over time arise repeatedly missions, be it that a UFO was sighted or that aliens have landed somewhere and conduct a raid. Above all, the attacks represent the players constantly faced problems because most 3 take place simultaneously, but you can only worry about yourself 1. In the other two countries, ie the panic rises inevitably.

When Phase 2 is tactical ground combat in which you lead 4-6 individually ausrüstbare soldiers into battle. Basically need (or at least should) always kill all the aliens, but vary the conditions. On some maps, there are civilians who must be protected, there is escorting and bomb disposal missions or an attack on an enemy base. Our soldiers there in 4 different versions are (heavy, storm, sniper and support) can thereby ascend steps and be geskillt in sequence, one has mostly 2 different skills to choose from and will have to choose one of them - the other is for these soldiers lost.

The fights are quite exciting and sometimes very challenging. At least for mouse users, the control is sometimes a bit tricky, especially in the use of missiles or grenades and when there are several levels. There room for improvement, but I think that you will get the patch via a grip.

Gameplay
In Phase 1, you can not do much superior, yet you need for a good strategy, otherwise it's over faster than you think. For rapid expansion is absolutely deadly. The whole thing is but always interspersed with cutscenes (the German voice acting is ok) and who wants to can read through the numerous research reports and so get a deeper insight into the game.

Although the tactical ground fighting have ultimately always to offer the same thing, does not come so quickly bored, because there are a number of different aliens, each erforden another tactic is the fact that you sometimes serious personnel problems, because it is hardly possible to finish a mission without injured or even dead - except by excessive saving and loading. Therefore, you can not rely on his best team often also need to bring one or the other boar. Negative is here especially that the class of recruits revealed until after 1 Levelup and this class is unfortunately given. All cards are ürbigens hand drawn and not generated as in the previous accident.

Objekttiv considered the options in the game are limited overall quite, but it is fun to play the game - and who is not permanently stores and invites, many ups and downs is going through, which are an elementary part of the game. It is hardly possible that you lose no countries on the aliens, and so you have to learn to walk, especially if you therefore already almost of defeat is - this results in a total lot of tension.

Bugs / stability
So far I have only found a Grafikbug that occurs very rarely and only ensures that you have to wait a few seconds for the camera again properly adjusted, otherwise there is nothing to fault on my part. After more than 10 hours of play time no crashes.

Changes to its predecessor:
-Only 1 basis on all other continents can only deploy interceptor, the hangars for this are already in place.

-The Satelitennetzwerk. Only supervised States support us financially and only there we can fight UFOs. Attacks can be fought everywhere
-Einmalig Usable modules for interceptors
-Only 1 Skyranger, therefore, only 1 team
-no stupid searching the card after the last Alien - at least not to the extent
-kaum preventable losses (at least frequent injuries)
-The panic level of States and related decisions, where one is active and where you can afford a little panic still
-in the battle you can not actively attack with normal weapons Coverings
-Storymissionen
-The aliens move on the map only when they are scared (usually by discovery) has.
-gescriptete Events provide in some mission types for a limited Respawn
-Much smaller teams, a maximum of 6 soldiers
Research / production is partly a minimum of scientists / technicians advance that you now get mainly through missions and the satellite network

Conclusion with regard to the changes that are not fully suggesting
The game is a remake, but it was not simply plugged into a modern garment special it massive changes were incorporated. Whether the good place or not, is a matter of taste, I personally find the new ideas largely good. Some existing features have been slimmed down, so some complexity is lost in these areas, but there are new complexity by innovations, such as classes and their skill options. It's a good game that leans to the old XCOM, but is not exactly identical.
