As the title suggests, "Fire it up Live", the focus of recorded through in April 2013 concert in the sold out Lanxess Arena in Cologne, with the same eight songs on his latest studio album "Fire it up". In addition, with few exceptions ("Hard Knocks") of course garnished with, enduring nature of a typical Joe Cocker concert program pieces (eg "Unchain my heart", or "You Are So Beautiful"), which since tens of years a firm are an integral part of his performances. As wonderful opener of the set is the new fleet number "I come in peace." Superbly grooving "Feelin 'Alright" and "The Letter" then testify that the Woodstock veteran can rely on an excellent companion volume, of which, incidentally, no one was interestingly represented on the studio album. So for example, sets drummer Jack Bruno, the band also belongs a series regular in Tina Turner's, towards a powerful drum performance. The vocal powerhouse Nichelle Tillman denies in very impressive way the Jennifer Warnes-Part in "Up Where We Belong". The culmination of the main part forms as always "With a little help from my friends", the Beatles classic, but is almost always associated with Joe Cocker; of course including the famous, expected by all concertgoers, fervent primal scream of the Master. The following additions to the soulful "Summer in the City", the great "Cry Me A River" and the beautiful ballad "You do not know what you're doing to me", leave behind an enthusiastic audience. So goodbye after two hours and twenty-rich pieces in an almost perfect idea of always remaining sympathetic and probably one of the most prominent singers and personalities of our time counting protagonist with a "God bless you Cologne, keep rocking!" of its auditorium. Hats off to this performance but this already elderly bedrock of music history! Nice that this evening in brilliant sound on CD (and beautiful pictures on DVD) was detained.
