I deliberately chose this USB 3.0 model, even if I do not have USB 3.0 on my older Dell Latitude, neither the laptop nor on the docking station. But the USB 3.0 adapter (these and other manufacturers) are based on the DisplayLink DL-3000 series of chips, which work much better performance than the chips of the old USB 2.0 models. Priced was / is also little difference.
I notice when working on USB 2.0 Port no restriction, even HD videos run fine - Office applications anyway. I connected a 22-inch monitor with the typical 1680x1050er resolution.
The adapter itself is nice and warm in continuous operation, but so far not critical anyway - but you know it already, if you anfässt him once.
Overall it's a really very easy to Wendes piece of hardware; Install Drivers - infected adapter - Monitor infect finished. I can wholeheartedly recommend the product to date.
