The very beginning of the story actually made a little coaxing, even for readers accustomed. BS Where does he lead us? I admit that I was burning to get into the plot, the book has been highly recommended to me by a friend ... and I found the pleasant if somewhat slow start.
After ... BS nevertheless accomplished with this first volume a pretty fantastic job: It has developed a new universe, far removed from the usual clichés and -for which concerne- me, I think it sells in a rather convincing.
Of course, there are some inconsistencies, but in view of the complexity of the work undertaken, I believe these odd ones are quite excusable.
And it must be said, The Ultimate Empire this poignancy -There speaks woman- that awakens and arouses so many emotions in the reader that keeps us going. Why try to dissect a story to make sense? While it is tempting to rule the world on a Cartesian basis objectively ... it is not applicable to all. What makes precisely the magic of imagination, in my capacity remains for the unexpected, and Fantasy obeys its own laws.
In this context, BS did a work of craftsmanship. His characters smoothed and well kept, its unique universe, dark and gloomy, his adventure from a very regular basis turns to a real showdown ... The failures encountered, realism ... (within the selected category, history clings to rules very down to earth.)
But above all what really attracted me is the subtle work that makes this world so ... in mind of the reader. How many times have I put my book to work with the feeling that wine with me? Or that in taking reading, I felt strangely familiar to find a person?
And what frustration by reaching the end of the first volume of not being able to devour the second! So many unanswered questions even if the story ends ... With bonus desire to find these characters so endearing and return for a ride to Luthadel ...
I read the first volume twice on the fly so I was taking in the history and eager to regain this world and these characters so human ... sincerely.
Being an "eclectic reader," I read a lot and of course I touch all genres. The Ultimate Empire has long been the first book to have kept up my interest and my attention so long even after completing it.
I like the moderate side of Manichaeism of this adventure (oh, of course he has some great nice and some villains, but in one way or another, the characters make mistakes that blur their perfection)
In short, Brandon Sanderson offers us still improved quality story good finds like allomantiques principles, or even the treatment of his characters, or his world. A pleasure for the mind, a true delicacy that still leaves taste after consumption!
