If the first two "real" novels ("38 Mini Westerns" is a compilation of short stories) are stunning successes as the alliance of poetry, fantasy and sensitivity works perfectly, the previous "Metamorphoses in the sky "was disappointing, with a bloated writing where Malzieu seemed to force him to stay in his world who wanted fairy but had more magic.
With this new novel, doubt was therefore legitimately permit, as much as a musical point of view, Dionysus is very discreet ... The first pages hardly generate hope, and the player feels immersed again certainly in a fantastic story, but especially without real interest, with a little kiss ever recorded as a guideline. And scroll pages, and boredom is increasingly present. Again, the initial idea seems to be an excuse for stringing cliches about love, all being found disguised by some pretty well licked circumlocutions or circumlocution.
Suddenly, against all odds, around half of the book, the magic works again: Malzieu simplifies his story, making it suddenly more real, which allows the fairytale world to perfectly mix with a more concrete background. It is exactly this "formula" which allowed "Now he does all the night time on you" to be as close to perfect, and that's what saves (largely) the last novel of Dionysian singer . Too bad it took to inflict a first half a little antiquated to get there, but do not spoil our fun: Mathias Malzieu is still capable of the best. And that is just super nice!
