An eloquent vision of music of Saint-Saëns

Saint-Saëns: Symphony No. 3 - Debussy: La Mer - Ibert: Escales (CD)

Customer Review

Camille Saint-Saëns was a prolific composer gone down in history for some of his works only: Concerto for Cello and Orchestra No. 1, Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 2, Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No. 3 The Carnival of the Animals (musical suite) and in the register symphony, Symphony No. 3>. A few leaders have delivered undeniable successes (Paul Paray and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Jean Martinon and the ORTF National Orchestra, George Priest and the Wiener Symphoniker), the memorable failures are legion (the ultimate being achieved by Louis Froment version). The French conductor Charles Munch we delivered two excellent versions, the first in 1947 with the New York Philharmonic (the first version is not found today), the second in 1959 with the Boston Symphony. The collection delivers a Living Stereo SACD reissue model. Charles Munch combines all the qualities that make this a reference reading.
1. It gives to his band intensity and uncommon energy, direction, constantly shakes the listener: it shortens the tempos (it is two to three minutes faster than its "colleagues" He went to the symphony "French". its mix of magnitude (first, third and last movements) and sweetness (the second movement Poco Adagio is not the most receuilli it is given ouir but what sound)
2. The Boston Symphony Orchestra is characterized once again by the quality of ALL consoles (strings, winds) led by a leader who knows where he led his troops.

Additions ("La Mer" by Debussy and "Ports of Call" by Jacques Ibert) perfectly complement this program if French: if they can not on their own justify buying this disc (the superlative interpretations abound in Debussy ), they Rednet acquisition agréables.ision most eloquent music of Saint-Saëns.
