Bruckner is one of three composers, Wagner and Mahler, who instilled in me the most plays (purchases) and intellectual interest.
If Wagner and Mahler are no problem as to the choice of partitions, Bruckner on the contrary generates a problem through a series of revisions of each of his symphonies (with the exception of the 5th, 6th and 7th) creating as many versions as are dated revisions. Location both complex and exciting for the mind and ear.
The true version? Each of these versions is true as long as it is performed (and, voluntarily or not) by the author and by him alone. They each are both beautiful and interesting to listen. The value is multiplied when we play the game of comparisons with each other! *
These considerations made, we come to this interpretation. Of all the ones I know (all versions), namely Jochum (Berlin and Dresden), Haitink, Wands, Karajan, Barenboim, and Inbals Tintner, that of Celibidache is one that touches me the most, the one that seems to me the most in keeping with the beauty of these compositions deeply internalized, generous, powerful, majestic, dramatic ...
The interpretation of Celibidache is both Collected, Emotional and full of Respect, and makes better than any other aspect of the Human and Mystique of these symphonies, causing fascination and leading us to ecstasy (also dixit other users ).
While here, despite the adoption in certain movements of a certain slowness (in fact the use of broad tempos), appears crystal clear, extremely bright and airy. Listening is facilitated by the excellent quality of the recording (in public what is heard but it does not matter, the concert as if you were there!))
In short, the absolute interpretation biases, wide choice of tempos enrolling in his phenomenological vision of music, justified by an amazing result highlighting the genius of the Master for us to meet God and Man at each measurement!
This set is compared to other interpretations of what the 5th with Jochum and the Concertgebouw in 1965 as compared to any other, except that here the equal Celibidache. That says it all!
* A note for those who would like, the existence of a complete integral of all versions of Bruckner's symphonies conducted by Gennadi Rozhdestvensky between 1983-1988 for Melodiya Records label with the Orchestra of the Ministry of Culture of USSR: "The Complete Symphonies Bruckner".
