"The Photographer" is the music accompanying an eponymous play based on real events in the life of Eadweard Muybridge, English-born photographer known for his studies of humans and animals, decomposing and juxtaposing the successive phases their movements.

This is a tragic episode in his life which serves as the main frame to the room.
Located in the San Francisco Bay he found by intercepted letters that his wife had a lover colonel. He went to the colonel said, "is the reply to the letter sent to my wife" and shot at close range with a revolver shot. Charged with murder he was acquitted after a trial that made headlines at the time.

Composed in 1983, this piece illustrates the first way to Philip Glass.
And repetitive structures developed in Act II include an ideal accompaniment photographs of Muybridge projected throughout the act.
With this recording I have personally discovered Philip Glass and learned to appreciate it.
