Now a brief review, with the most important facts about the ASUS DRW-24B3ST drive:
The packaging was like in the article description named "Retail", ie in this case from a cardboard box. The drive itself was well padded packed in foam slipcases - and therefore perfectly protected from ruppiges / careless handling of the pack.
At the retail packaging often includes some more accessories / equipment, in this case, however, were only a CD and screws (4 in number) to be mounted in. The screws are enclosed is my experience after something of a rarity, but it lacked a SATA cable or power adapter (for older power supplies very good and practical). So, before buying a precaution see if appropriate cables are available or your power supply can provide the correct power connection.
Now for the drive itself:
Installation is relatively easy even for inexperienced hands - with some caution that should not be a problem. Accordingly, quickly went on the stage. After the first direct drive up a small, nice surprise: in the BIOS display the ASUS drive is specified as ASUS drive. In the last 12 years, I had countless CD- and DVD-drives and often the entry was not really to which drive is or what the numbers / letters nonsense to say, but as I said just a little thing.
The drive itself was set up under Windows Vista 32-bit Home Premium in a few seconds.
The volume is both when fired and when reading extremely pleasant! Unlike so some LG, Samsung, TEAC and LiteON drives, this one is really quiet. Who should be rumkrackeln copy would be loud as the bleating mother, should be aware that several things to control the level of a drive. Tags: decoupling the housing assembly to thin housing walls (low-cost housing), unstable state of the housing etc.
The read speed I can only judge subjectively and in my view, an increase on previous DVD-drives are, even if it's now something very meaningful. Slowly the drive is not definitely, the access times are even very quickly. Inserted CD / DVD and the popup window will appear immediately.
The burning speeds are properly and so far there were no problems with unreadable blanks (both CD-R and DVD discs).
The error correction of the drive is a real screamer, because my found just 5 days ago FIFA98 CD (yes, the version where you could still play in the hall), which is scratched incredible and is an outrage of CD storage, was promptly and immediately read! This has so far not managed to drive - an absolute surprise - my joy lasts up to now. My slightly older drive from Samsung is desperate mercilessly on this CD.
Visually the drive is not quite as simple as comparable drives and looks a bit valent (some more writing and everything in black or gray text) - which is also a matter of taste. The light flashes little garish in yellow / green, the charger goes out and in quickly. Here, then, no criticisms.
The prices of DVD burners are anyway very cheap and are mostly 16 to 30 euros. With about 25 this is a really good price for a very good drive, with no weaknesses, but impressive error correction! Only the equipment could be extensive, but I am of the opinion that one should therefore not deduct Star because it is primarily concerned with the properties of the drive.
I hope this was a reasonable assistance for questions you can contact me or leave a comment.
