This book already tempted me for a while. And there was little, I saw that Volume 2 was released and according to the readers, it was better than Volume 1. So here I am on an adventure. And what an adventure! Combining the bizarre events and scary side, volume 1 was able to take me in his net, so much that I struggled to get my reading!
Jacob Portman is 16 and since his childhood, he listens to the stories his grandfather tells him. During the war, it is housed on an island where he met very different people other. Although deep down, Jacob wants to believe, there is all the same very down to earth: his grandfather is getting old and with it, her memory is deteriorating.
However, one evening, the young man finds his grandfather fatally wounded by a creature and from that moment, will conduct the investigation and go on this famous island, where he will meet these particular children, with strange powers. Firstly very remote with respect to all this, it will in time realize that his grandfather rambled in no way and that these children really exist.
Although the start is very slow because one learns to know the characters, the suite is totally the opposite. I was embarrassed several times, both behaviors and descriptions seemed real. This book is quite challenging to read because it deals with a part of the story but not easy to digest all this into the skin of teenagers, which despite everything these concerns are in their world but still very smart.
This is also what surprised me most: the intelligence of these kids, who remain simple and quiet foolproof. It is true that after a time one can understand why, when the truth comes out, but it is even more interesting!
If at first, Jacob seem more lost in the discoveries that he does, he will take upon him quickly and help to better his new friends. Conversely, he will lie to his father who accompanied him on the island. For if the latter is aware of what he does, he may believe that he has lost his head, already greatly affected by the death of his grandfather.
I'd tell you more, but if I do, I will reveal to you more than necessary. Just the strong point of this story are the pictures scattered here and there in the novel. The author is fully appropriate them, and although they are true, as he says at the end of the book he has changed himself so that they are in perfect agreement with the history and the course of the book. The sight of these pictures is already agonizing, but reworked so the inconvenience that has been reading is even stronger. And I do not say it's a weakness, quite the contrary. Sometimes it's "good" to be as disturbed and embarrassed in a reading such as this one.
In summary, a first volume that has to embark, make me dependent but also anxious. Photos scattered here and there are the biggest highlight of the story, making it all the more true. Even if it is a fiction, the choice of the theme is such that despite everything, we feel close to the characters and the part of the story quoted. Now I'm very curious to read later. Unfortunately, as I have borrowed from work, I do not know if I could read Volume 2 very quickly, too bad ... It is a reading that I strongly advise those who are not afraid and trembling have the stomach in all directions at times!
