A score, which gives the film a soul

James Newton Howard has catapulted since his last work to Shayamalans films for me in the league of Topkomponisten. To the bloody and dramatic "Blood Diamond", he composed a typical for him, yet new and exciting score. This soundtrack is mainly characterized by the African elements. But Howard would not be Howard if he does not re-create beautiful themes and a charming atmosphere and it employs skillfully.

On topics James goes on mainly two: First, the dynamic and beautiful theme to Solomon, which at "Skorponok" from "Transformers" (Steve Jablonsky) reminds maybe a little. But this is in a different direction and sounds to me probably just "accidentally" equal ... Adjust does it anyway perfectly Solomons character because it bears a mixture of tragedy and hope.
The second theme is the quiet "Maddy & Archer" which accompanied mainly the love story between the two characters.

Personally, I am an absolute fan of African scores as "Lion King" or "Tears of the Sun", that's why I also like especially "Blood Diamond". Objectively speaking one can also say that Howard cleverly uses these elements and thus not only the beauty but also the brutality of Africa captures. Especially the African voices are truly wonderful. On most dominant these parts function in "Archer Sells Diamond". While listening to this track, you get immediate images of a sale road in Africa in the head.
But in "Blood Diamond", it is also very action-packed and brutal: In "Village Attack", "Fall Of Freetown" and "Diamond Mine Bombed" skin Howard powerful plan. Here fast percussions are used and support the dramatic music in the foreground and the use of electric guitar has a particularly threatening activity. Especially in "Diamond Mine Bombed" he builds the tension nicely aus.Darunter there is still a very verstrendes piece "G8 Conference".
Then the score sounds very gentle and beautiful, and although the two main themes. Particularly captivating is "I Can Carry You" and "Your Mother Loves You!" But the last two pieces of "London" and "Solomon Vandy" are the perfect end to this truly rousing soundtrack. Without the songs that fit the mood, but rather disturbing when compared to the score, the CD comes in a period of about 50 minutes.

I know it's hard when you "King Kong" or "The Village" considering, but this composer always manages to compose fascinating music! "Blood Diamond" is a soundtrack that I recommend to every film music lovers!
