This book deserves at least 10 stars so it is amazing! This fiction of a spooky realism takes you from the first pages and does not let go. It is so well described and detailed that I had the impression of seeing a movie. It attaches quickly to the various characters and the death of many of them is sorely felt. It's amazing how fast the modern world as we know it can be destroyed. At one point of the book the author compares the oil to the blood in the human body. If the body is no longer irrigated, organs stop functioning and the body dies. It's the same for oil which we are so dependent to feed us, warm us, we dress, we move. Close taps of black gold is therefore to cause a heart attack the old man is our world as we know it. In the words of the author after the end of the book: "It is not a book on Peak Oil (...) it is a book about our vulnerability and our laziness on our addiction to the existing system. . (...) I wish Andy Sutherland has achieved something: the world you appear slightly different now - rained fragile, more vulnerable. After all, forewarned is forearmed. " It succeeded Mr. Scarrow. A must read!
