As it says at one point in the book, Versus "is not an investigation that is carried but a fucking way of the cross". Start reading, it's diving into a vision of our society of a frightening and vertiginous darkness, yet so realistic. No higher bid nor complacency here, but a description of human nature and its dark and creepy side without headlight or tweezers. Antoine Chainas is undoubtedly THE revelation of noir fançais recent years, one of the most powerful voices, realistic and brutal of the genre. It tramples decorum, mocks political correctness but his novel is a force and a staggering realism, superbly written, with some accents sometimes slang that remind us the great classics of the genre. A novel that can not leave indifferent, love it or do not love me I have loved even if it emerges from this reading groggy and haunted by hallucinating characters. A huge Black Series and not for the faint hearted too.
