The Scorpio Races is a slow book, which will be not any. The silent story taciturn, reclusive characters, the harsh landscape and the fascinating but also disturbing water horses can boast not much in terms of plot and action. Only towards the end of the book it is really exciting the strength of this novel lies rather in a quiet force, mediating an atmosphere, a quiet but profound love story and an interesting setting with economical use of fantasy elements. Possible this dense entanglement is the poetic and beautiful language and narrative style of the author, which actually tells quite simply and succeeds with this simple means, convey much.
Nevertheless, The Scorpio Races not a book for everyone is determined there is certainly catchier young adult novels. Personally, I found the book but very moving and beautiful.
