1)
A base via a LAN cable and switch to a FritzBox the WAN access (Internet) provides.
This base should span a private WLAN, because I want to show the WLAN of the Fritz box.
Via 3.5mm jack to use connection to AV receiver to AirPlay.
2)
Up second base on a place where the wireless reception is poor, as an extension of WLANs first base.
Also via LAN cable and switch, so as additional Acesspoint (ie WLAN adapter with the same SSID and password as the first base).
By 3.5 mm to use connection to stereo amplifier to also AirPlay.
3)
Other apartment, not a LAN cable, the station should mainly target the AirPlay feature an iPad and iTunes on the PC to a stereo system.
The station must therefore log on to a telecom router via WLAN and should therefore as a wireless repeater function (Wireless Expansion LAN-free).
The end first: Everything worked really smoothly.
There are the following points should be noted:
-
In other Apple devices these stations operate on almost eerily well.
-
It is strongly recommended the use of an I-dings, otherwise there is the Windows 7 version of the configuration program directly from Apple (which I did not need).
The base stations have just not a web front-end to configure.
-
The stations need quite long, up to 60 sec., Until they are ready to set up.
Since then, however, only the options offer make sense, I suppose that you are querying next ARP (contact to the network) and some (DHCP address assignment by the router) in that time the infrastructure.
-
So the first station asked after the WLAN of the Fritz box to expand or mount a separate Wi-Fi, the second station then immediately ask to expand the first station. This immediately means that this point will appear on the menu, the rest under Advanced.
-
The third station in the other apartment was set on a Canada based iPad there, the station listed the existing WLANs and hit the iPad used from directly in front.
If you choose this assumes the station without further action the login information of the iPad to to register with the already used WiFi.
-
The base stations may not be placed too close to amplifier or power strips, so in my case not be placed on it, 10 cm distance should do the trick, but I think that's clear
-
AirPlay works brilliantly as I have wished.
iOS devices can always select only one station as a speaker, iTunes on PC (and I think therefore on Mac), the whole apartment sonication (currently 3 AirPlay goals).
-
The stations get its own AirPlay name, you really so chooses living room, study, stereo, etc.
-
Communication with the FritzBox works for days smoothly, the wireless throughput has felt and improved according to display (taskbar), but had no measurement was made.
-
If you connect the AirPort stations just as I have done it to, so the FritzBox is also the DHCP server assigns the IP addresses, the stations can not set up a guest network.
You will not find this option and I think this is rightly so.
Conclusion
The stations are great, with super Apple devices.
Anyone who wants to expand the non-Appler its network can also do it differently
(Just please no wireless repeater, the howls in the circle no longer tolerate).
So, hope that was interesting
[Supplement]
The individual components are still running great.
But as I read in the comments repeatedly about problems in Windows, I'd like the following tools link hard:
[...]
[...]
The first is the Windows 7 Airport Utility
The second is the Bonjour printer communication protocol for Windows, this is the basis for AirPlay.
If iTunes has problems when streaming, you get solved most of the problems on the targeted installation of Bonjour.
Good luck with that.
[Supplement 2]
Ok, link does not work, so please google for:
Airport Diensntprogramm for Windows
Bonjour for Windows
Results should always be a support page of Apple.
[Supplement 3 - 30.12.2013]
Thanks to the good commentary by Mr Berger, I was reminded of my review.
Since I am now moved to the airport, I would once again bring some experience.
The constellation is initially remained the same, but it is now over three floors and with a lot more devices (iOS and androids, and some Windows computers, and more recently a MacBook).
The new facility was first with an iPhone afloat by hand, unfortunately, an Airport station was in bridge mode, this is stupid in so far as, first everything seems to work, but after about 20 minutes then collapsed the entire network ,
Correct establishment of the Airport station I did not succeed on the iPhone, only the Windows 7 utility described above enabled me to solve the problem in the situation.
From there, about 4 months, everything is here stable and fast, the two airport stations are still connected via LAN cable to ASUS switches and perform with all terminals in service.
I also call a MacBook now my own, I must briefly digress into the Apple world, but I am striving not to place undue proselytizing:
If, like me, umsteigt after years of intensive use of Windows on OS X, you will always be surprised by the harmony of the individual devices.
I are aware of the technical background and also the restrictions, but especially the interaction of MacBook, iPhone, Apple TV and even the Airport stations described puts me in astonishment.
Firstly, the devices such as the airports are just there, there is no configuration Instalations- or orgies, secondly, the AirPlay technology is so deeply rooted in the system, which is a seamless integration possible.
So, now, however, is enough, the things I do not want to miss and I recommend each LAN cable to relocate, regardless of which access point to use.
