This is a very good book on feelings of an artist vis-à-vis his work. However, if Garnier seeks to retrospectively justify a particular choice or to express a particular regret, he does not explain how he envisioned his opera-out. There is more talk of diffucultés the site of his troubles with the press or the politicians of the time. I regret that it does not talk about the genesis of the project.
