When Samantha Bailly announced that there would be a sort of spin-off on Sonax, cross character in "Prayers", I was happy! Indeed, I had a little bit of heart for him while playing, and I was disappointed that not more exploited. So when the news came, I was happy! And oh! surprise when I opened the book in my car, because I'm very curious ... (ahem). ... It was dedicated on my birthday! : D So a gift not planned but that makes me very happy !!!
The novel is divided into three distinct parts: Teen Sonax, meeting Niwnver and the part which is known thanks to "Prayers". I confess I have my preference for the first part, which is really great Sonax touching and where you really see its evolution and especially what it was before the gift of Polymorph (I do storyline spoil anything!).
Sonax was thirteen when his life changed forever. Intended to take the reins of the bank to his mother's death, sees something else. He can not stand his life at home, and decides to run away and quickly found roaming in a theater having placed his feet in the city where he lives. There, he grows up, will meet and discover that the world in which he lives is far from what he imagined. This life will shape the decision-making that could cause him more damage it imagines. I will not dwell on that part because I do not want to spoil the fun of discovery, but we meet several characters who will become important in his life and he will lead the adventure.
In the second part, Sonax grew, and a new drama made him change his beliefs and what he has become. Forced to flee again, he will meet Nwinver the Viridian Héelderion of which go up to him a new side of life that will change the course of time. Become polymorphic, it will do with its new status and especially enforce the rules Niwnver holds. This part is as interesting as the first, because we still see more developments. But in a sense, I had several nips heart to see the teenager away to find a man destroyed by his childhood and who no longer trusts. His relatives betray gradually and soon he is stuck in a situation he will struggle to get out. After all, being polymorph is a positive point to blend in, right? But it can just as easily become a disadvantage when feeling overwhelmed.
And finally, the last part is the one that reminds us of what happened in "Prayers" where we really known. His character has evolved and is becoming colder with those he meets. Previously, he had to make choices that broke him a little more confidence that he could bring to people, but especially emerging friendships that could have made him much. The author has managed to perfectly recreate its bad to be polymorphic. Although he enjoys his status, he knows that he is in a vicious circle, and everything he does will end up either by falling on him, and worse.
I was really caught by this "small" spin-off which allowed me to get to know this person, who had intrigued me earlier. While I loved "Orations" I have my preference for "Metamorphoses" that really touched me by the appearance of this character that has many facets. I think I will reread again, because nothing of writing this review, I realize that Sonax already miss me much. I loved it as a teenager, I had trouble with his adult pass, and he shook the hearts many times with her difficult and incredible situations.
In summary, this is a spin-off that I really loved it! The pages have turned themselves, and Sonax moved me more than reason. His androgynous surely played something more, because as he has both facets female / male, it attaches easily to him. The choices he makes are difficult, but on the other hand, one can not understand that. Prepare all the same box of handkerchiefs, as from the first 50 pages, you will let the tears flow. Samantha Bailly takes no gloves and did not hesitate to make him suffer, to hook the reader more! For me, this book is a great success! However, for those with reading this book before "Orations" I advise you not find that the first two parts, then read "Prayers" and continue with the third because the latter is a "summary" of what one discovers in the other novel. It would be a shame you spoilez this novel, because it really goes from discovery to discovery.
