Here we find a compilation of a time when its reputation was surprisingly high among "Unetablierten" quasi one of the figureheads. Their former record label was Vangard, and the cross section comes from these discs.
Quite a few of my favorite songs, I think about "Turquoise", a bittersweet piece with floating string chords, "The Night They Drove ol` Dixie Down", and of her so movingly arranged old "Child Ballads", a collection of English and Scottish folk songs that she awakened to new life. Silkie about, Lady Hamilton, or John Riley: eerily beautiful ballads, sung legends.
Then the critical songs of protest singer, own songs like "Sweet Sir Galahad" find; and the supporters of the movement Dylan / Donnavan / Cohen.
"Love is just a word fourlettered" is an expression of defiance, with "With God On Our Side" an indictment of bigotry and war-mongering. This is culminated by "A Hard Rain is gonna fall" - the atomic rain accusingly. Hopeful longing anytime sounds in "Farewell Angelina" or "Do not Think Twice, it`s all right".
Given the large number of really good pieces that brought Joan already in the first 10 years on the stage, it was certainly not easy to make a choice, and of course I am missing some favorite items, such as on a Wagon / Donna.
However, it is a representative selection of songs that reflects the magnificent diversity of voice, but her duty as a credible ambassador for peace and justice respect. Is seen not only the music fan in this "best of" - have collection joy. She is also documentary for the perception of a political youth who has not recently expressed with music of their hope and their life.
