My wife and I are amateur photographers, often with our Olympus DSLRs (my wife and I E-5 E-3) and go with these devices even more than satisfied. Now I had the opportunity to test one week the new Pen E-PM1 with the 14-42mm Kitzoom. The E-PM1 is really a very small camera! With her brown-silver housing and the silver lens it looks quality and feels like that. The small casing has the advantage that you can often times takes the Cam with - without camera bag. But the disadvantages I want to add: On the back is room for only 4 tiny buttons (including scroll wheel multifunctional, which simultaneously serves as a 4-way rocker). So you have to make settings more frequently over the menu when you're used to it by our DSLRs. However, I quickly got used to the service of the little ones, my wife on the other hand - which bypasses easy and secure with your E-5 - comes not cope with the operation. It may also be because, that we both never use the automatic functions of cameras, but rather in semi-automatic or manual mode are traveling. In parting, the testing we've done with our photo club a half-day trip in the countryside Hohe Ward in the Ruhr - all on the go with their large DSLRs (Nikon, Canon, Sony, and Oly). As I stood with my Mini Pen out already and was questioned on all sides curious. But you did not want to remove me that the little girl can take it easy with a DSLR in terms of image quality. I'll have to prove at the next meeting. Regrets I have in the trip that I was severely restricted with the Kitzoom in the focal length; some motifs required simply to more tele. The picture quality, however, has me very impressed. A high resolution and excellent image quality up to ISO 800 and a more than useful to ISO 1600 can easily keep up with the image quality of DSLRs. I must mention that the E-PM1 has a lot to offer videographers: recording in Full HD, Steroton, recording in AVDHC format etc. But since I'm not a videographer, I did not getetstet this area.
