A wonderful (exotic) companion with small defects

The technical data are available on the Sony page and Android tablet operating system I want to lose no words here also: Because there's more than enough reviews to deal with it. Therefore, it's done here exclusively to the tablet itself.

The Tablet P is already folded with its two 5.5 inch displays significantly greater than a spectacle. The silver-blue color of the shell is in pleasant contrast to the rest of the black housing part. The device provides not only high quality of live, but feels just as luckily on. It is relatively difficult, is both supply as well as unfolded safely and comfortably in the hand and feels strong.

Are located on the right side all the "real" buttons and ports: on / off switch, loudspeakers / low volume rocker, USB port (! No charge via USB), charging socket (charger included), charging LED and a small opening that will be the microphone (the Tablet P has definitely a microphone as eg Shazam (music recognition) prima the device works!).
On the left side is only a small opening for the built-in speakers with which we are in shortage no. 1: The speaker is' ne laughingstock! How precisely Sony may so obstruct a waste is incomprehensible to me. Current smart phones like the Xperia Arc S or the Xperia Play show how good small speakers can be really ... and then you find the Sony Tablet P as a scrap. For system sounds etc. reaching the thing ... but that's all. Maybe you can as resourceful hobbyist speaker against what better exchange - but I will probably test only after the guarantee ;-)

On the outside of the device, a 5MP camera with no LED flash is the one can photografieren and movies. The quality is quite good, enough in daylight, is for me but a marginal effect because I have not bought the Tablet P as camera :-)

On the lower front of the device there is a headphone jack (3.5mm standard) and a very very nice detail that in most test reports which I have personally seen to date is not listed: The grip in the front in the one to sums contains unfold the device comfortably a hidden LED strip that works almost the entire length as a notification LED for various things: for example, for new emails, calendar alerts, low battery, running eBay auction, Bluetooth enabled, no power, etc. By means of the program "Light Flow" allows the LED to adjust just fine and flexible: You can set whether it is flashing, in what frequency it is flashing, steady light and fortunately also different colors!
I personally feel super: So you see even when the device is folded prima if it wants something from one or whether any waiting message or simply whether the battery comes to an end. The LED strip is about 4cm wide.

The charging LED can be via the above program, incidentally, also appeal to. I've also set to red when the battery is low. This is very handy when the Tablet P is in a protective sleeve; then you see the front logically but not the charging LED shares possibly already with that wants to have power of Small again :-)

A Pros headings Cases:
After sample other cases I can only say: Buy rather equal the original Sony case. It is 40 euros but not that cheap is simply the best! The Tablet P fits reasonably clean, the cover fits like a glove, is sufficiently padded and well made - and ultimately should not save a 599, one - to protect euro unit.
The other cases I've tested ... well, I could have moved even 'n socks over it. Ergo clear recommendation for the original Sony bag. For Sony leather case I can not say that I have not tested.

The SIM card is inserted at the top of the tablet, battery and memory card at the bottom. How? Simple: This silver-blue bowl of the device can be removed completely! The lower shell is secured with two small latches that must push back in the housing with a fingernail only to solve them. Then you have access to replaceable (!) Battery and the memory card (microSD). A 2GB card is included.
The upper shell is peeled off by pressing the tray forward and not sitting as bombproof as the lower part. That bothers me personally a bit, but is complaining on a high level.
Much worse is the fact that the shell is still very sensitive to scratching, although satin (fortunately no glossy plastic). The shells can be exchanged by the way: They are available at Sony in white and black to buy the tablet to your own taste to be able to adapt externally. A few more colors would certainly have been nice; where there is no problem with security, those things just to paint.

By the way can be found on the housing and the small Playstation logo with these 4 symbols that can be found on the PlayStation controller, since the Tablet P is also Playstation certified.
It is also a game: Crash Bandicot from Playstation 1 times ... the controls appear on the screen ... but here is true - as with all touchscreen devices - there's nothing like real key and sticks. So this is a PSP, an Xperia Play, a Playstation 3 controller or even the Playstation Vita yet clear (!) Better to use as virtual fields on a screen.

At the rear housing part is on the right way, again the favorite with Japanese devices (and sensible) eyelet for a wrist strap. I also find useful to further harden the device when you hold it in your hand. A wrist strap was with me not there, but the cost almost nothing and you can each x-arbitrary use (for example from the Nintendo Wii controllers, the PlayStation Move controllers, etc.), you should probably just do not buy the cheapest garbage : The loop should not tear yes right the first jolt while you have to watch helplessly from cardiac arrest as the Tablet P is the rendezvous with the concrete floor approaches :-)

During power you will be entertained by a small animation: Golden glowing bands that move. After that sets up the tablet and off you go.
It looks really beginning to have some weird distributed from the Android desktop on 2 screens. The Tablet P reacts pleasantly fast to all inputs and the resolution of both displays is gratifying good. At an even higher resolution would require otherwise have reading glasses.
The display quality of the LCD is very good! Unlike the OLED and AMOLED displays is the color reproduction of LCDs significantly more natural and comfortable!
The lower display will show me a little bit darker ... but that is probably a tribute to the power management and its does not interfere in daily life from. A small Alltagstip: When a background image for the home screen should an image be selected in which the main object is not necessarily the center can be seen in the middle of it is there because of the two displays in the middle is pretty interrupted by the black bars of the housing edge. But this is a purely aesthetic issue, nothing more.

Sony itself provides with various customized programs that use the two screens make sense. When entering text in the entire bottom of the screen always the keyboard is displayed. I like virtual keyboards do not like, but this is to be a good size to it with the thumb writing (similar to the Blackberry) reasonable. On a 10 "inch tablet is not really for the music or video program their own, good headphones should necessarily due to the miserable speaker be used via the headphone output makes the baby then it worth it:.. Sony typical good sound with sufficient reserves to normal earphones sufficient to operate noisy. Looks like with big headphones I do not know that I have not tested.

Videos can be - at least with the supplied program ausschlieslich the upper display while the lower part look at the control panel displays.
The same applies to the simple clock. Upper display shows large time and at the bottom are then to see options (alarm clock, slide show, music, home). Smartphone owners of the brand Sony Ericsson know the example of the Xperia Play when it's plugged into the docking station.
So you can put on the nightstand as an alarm clock / clock tablet incidentally. In watch program there are right above a (virtual) button on the screen to turn down the brightness of ultra - very good if you are the thing at night in the bedroom.

The surface to start programs is designed by Sony affectionate and adapts when scrolling perspective on ... nice gimmick.

The Sony own programs are all adapted to the 2 screens, with programs of other providers you can fortunately choose to whether the program should make use of both screens, or if it appears on one (always the top). This is useful because not all programs if you want to use it on both screens. The eBay program I use only the upper display; otherwise it crashes. ebay just ;-)

Incidentally, you can enter for lock screen of tablet owners information. I think that's very good!

The browser is quick and androidtypisch. Bookmark appealing is the Sony-page for tablets stored. Also here are some links and a program from Sony inform the specially adapted programs for the Tablet P. I like that, especially since there are beautiful things, "Accuweather" is super adapted and the news program "Cassandra" also.
It would be desirable if more programmers take care of 2 displays and a few meaningful but also design pretty gadgets for.
The leaves on both screens away is initially a bit strange because in the middle due to design happens to be the interruption of the two housing halves is. But you get used to it and it works flawlessly.

What is somewhat strange: If I want to delete a program / widget from the surface and this is at the bottom of the screen, I have to pull it in other's display on the appropriate option. Since this interruption in the middle now and then is a bit annoying and cumbersome.

Both the WLAN and UMTS receipt of the unit, I feel as good and especially for everyday use. Anyone wishing to use the device outdoors should either the automatic brightness control of the screen to use (can be switched on and off) or adjust the brightness accordingly high - then can the Tablet P also use outside. Of course, but the glossy surface mirrors the problem have all devices such as smartphones, regular mobile phones, tablets etc.
A GPS function, the unit has also, here I have nothing but tested yet

The battery life in operation (using =, surfing, etc.) is approximately 5-6 hours. Standby mode varies between 24-48. Will be also with security in mind how many background services are still exploited. Charging via the supplied charger takes but felt quite long. Very good, I find that you can easily replace the battery!

In any case, I find the battery life of the device in order; perhaps what is there also via update optimizes ... but that's just a guess on my part.

A pity I think that Sony has left out the IR transmitter at the Tablet P, the there's unfortunately only the big brother Tablet S. The would have been the icing on the cake at the Tablet P.

Of course, the Tablet P supports the DLNA standard and can play photos and music on your home network. From Sony to Sony you can see the contents easily via Program on the target device "throw" with a gesture on the touch screen. How is that with other DLNA-enabled devices: I do not know, I have not tried both due to time constraints. But because DLNA is a standard that the device will probably tolerate behaved.

At this point, by the way, a note:
. Who has standing around a so-called LocationFree Base Station from Sony for the PSP or his computer, can be used now with an Android device: Namely, with the program "ThereTV".
But is still a beta version, but I have to try in the next few days! Then you could, etc. including the Tablet P TV, DVD on the Tablet P stream :-) Good thing if you maybe in bed at night even a little television wants to disturb via headphones without his wife.

Of course, the device supports both the vertical-grip as well as the landscape mode. In particular, if you want to read (Kindle or Sony Reader) can grow as an opened book the Tablet P then. Very pleasant!

All in all, I can say that I am very pleased with the Sony Tablet P.

- Criticisms are the joke of speakers that some scratch-sensitive housing shells and the battery life. The latter can never be long enough for a mobile device actually.

I would buy the unit definitely be back! It is ideal for traveling because you can disappear it in your pocket!
