Tonight it was now ready, and I gave myself entirely to the benefit of the two new Live at Wembley CDs on my current stereo combination down (CD: Revox B226, AMP: Accuphase E305V, LS: Canton Vento 890.2). At the very beginning I was impressed with a sophisticated volume level from the very transparent sound spectrum that brings endless nuances of the game as an instrument of song to the fore. So you can hear each instrument individually, if one pays attention. I think this is the main difference to the ABBA-studio productions where the sound of each instrument rises more in a compact and sparkling overall sound.
The arrangements of the songs are mostly its basically not much different than in the studio versions. Only one or two short instrumental contribution and the ever-present electric guitars make a difference here. But anyway this live CD for me does not sound like a real live CD. As the? Something is missing an absolute live experience. I must mention at this point that I in linear mode (TONE OFF) listen to CDs without exception. This results in the usual way the perfect sound for me. But not in this ABBA live CD. Here the bass pressure missing.
Bass and drums can be heard, but in the background so that the concert is lacking dynamism. Band bets about when I have a dream stay pale and simply do not tear me away. The I of the studio albums spectacular memories. More and more I come in the course of hearing the first CD to the conclusion that probably here at Amazon reviewers have those rights, the report of a non-optimal sound mix. But this judgment was like a little later turned out premature. Because I took the break during the transition to the second CD for experimental purposes, the COMP - to press (= loudness) button on the amplifier. And suddenly saw the world quite different or hear them quite differently at:
Drums and bass suddenly shone with that punch, which is so typical of live concerts. The band stakes are now really spectacular and tear me literally from the stool. Even in the stomach, the basslines are now feeling. And the bass sounds come though very soft clear contours and thus date back to the very low frequency ranges down. Wunderbar! Now there is an absolute live feeling even if now the middle and high frequencies into the background by the more powerful bass a little. All in all I hear now almost perfect live sound. Not much different though a few decibels louder the concert will probably have his day sounded for visitors at Wembley Arena. Gorgeous!
Conclusion:
The new ABBA live double-CD is the concert from 1979 in almost Reference suspicious quality again, provided the bass pressure when playing the amplifier is adjusted a little. This makes correct anticipation of more ABBA live recordings that appear hopefully soon and similar fantastic sound like this Wembley recording from 1979
