In fact the title of the book is a bit simplistic as one might expect nth account of the battle of Marignan. Not at all ... the author paints us a picture ... very detailed (sometimes too) of political forces in the west to east that shape the world of rebirth. The battle is mentioned but occupies 3 chapters on 12 that includes the book. I especially enjoyed the two chapters on a conquest of South America and the other on the Protestant Reformation looming against the excesses of the Roman Church. Truly a beautiful work that will satisfy lovers of the period and the Philistines. One downside: the wealth of detail in the presentation of the protagonists who can sometimes lose the thread, but it gives way to flat overall fresco.
