Equipment and processing:
When you open the packaging, I thought at first to have received the wrong phone. The perceived quality of the Y530 is indeed very good indeed. Especially the rubberized, textured back contributes to this, as it is very handy and the phone securely in your hand. The front is black and does not differ much from other smartphones. However, Huawei has the phone standalone buttons for "Back", "Home" and "Options" donated, while many other manufacturers rely here on integrated screen software keyboard. This circumstance, however, adds to the dimensions of the phone and it is not much smaller than my Xperia Z with 5 inch display. It can be found on the front of a front camera (VGA), the approximation sensor, recesses for earpiece and microphone. Also a notification LED is happily integrated, a really helpful feature. On the back camera, see (5MP), which protrudes slightly from the body (more on that later under Handling), the LED flash and the loudspeaker. Volume rocker and power button are atypical mounted on the left side (more on that later also more at handling) and the USB charging socket is located on the underside. The phone has a replaceable battery (unfortunately this has become increasingly rare) and an SD card slot (inside). The SIM card slot verlang surprisingly the standard card size, though the Trend Micro SD card is more in the right.
A glance at the specifications reveals but then the price range and just the "only" 512MB of RAM, leaving nothing good for the operation promised (my old Motorola Milestone jerky with its 512 MB RAM happily to herself). The resolution of the screen is below average, but you may expect in this price range also not a Retina display here.
Positive I noticed yet that an FM radio with on board is nice that you have received this feature, despite the low price. The GPS in the device is present, I have to, I do not mention because it is a standard feature on a smartphone.
Operation + Simple UI:
This is intended primarily for beginners, the Y530, already evident in the in-service adoption. Huawei has placed his Simple UI said surface over the underlying Android 4.3. Here you're looking, for example, an app launcher in vain and also in the Settings Huawei has hidden some menu items. Especially is also that you can also hide the known of Android homescreen completely and switch to a simplified view, which offers individual tiles for apps and strongly reminiscent of the interface of Windows Phone, for beginners certainly a good alternative, but you have then waive widgets or a variable surface.
Otherwise, the conventional surface can similarly of regular Android adapt known. However, one must note that widgets are offered considerable delay to choose from for the home screen. Here Waiting is announced after the installation of appropriate apps.
Otherwise, Huawei has done a very good job. The surface is very smooth in spite of the above criticized small memory and it showed itself in use many widgets few jerkiness or delays in the app launch. Only during heavy multitasking or many open tabs in browser you realize then but the low memory, but probably the disruptive effect rather less in the target group.
But negative fell on the internal memory management. Thus, from the 4 GB memory of the phone only 1 GB of apps available, which is measured quite scarce in times of ever increasing Apps, here would be a dynamic allocation of memory have been better. However, the phone is not a representative, you would use for graphically complex games, but the graphics chip is not adequately dimensioned.
Screen:
Despite the rather low resolution of the screen can be described as good. Although he does not act overly spicy (you can already see the pixel structure) but is sufficiently high luminosity in order to be read even outdoors can and has a good automatic brightness control. Due to the size contents are also shown nice large, which makes operation easy. Videos seen on the Y530 although good, seem to be a little fuzzy, especially when higher display resolutions are accustomed. The viewing angle stability is very good for it and so can be smartphone also from an oblique angle look good.
Overall, the Y530 beats here considering the price very good.
Acoustics:
Very good. That hits in a short sentence. In particular, the speaker is surprisingly loud (louder than my Xperia Z) and even at high volumes free of distortion. Speakerphone sounds both users as well as on the other side clean and free of interruptions, etc. Again, everything is volume Technically as it should be.
The category is certainly a plus point of the Y530.
Battery life:
Here expects the lower screen resolution, the slightly weaker processor and good sized for the battery specifications. 2 days duration with over 4 hours of video-on-time and still more than 30 percent remaining capacity in WLAN enabled are positive and provide so many high-end smartphone in the shadows. Also within this category is a big selling point of the phone.
Camera:
Somewhere each phone has its weak point and the Y530 is the camera. Although it is useful, however, the shutter lag is very high and even in bright light focusing was not true always. However, also applies here: Do not forget the price, a high-end camera should not be expected. After all, there is a front camera eg: for video calling, even if only in VGA resolution. The LED flash is quite bright and it lit snapshots of good, if the subject is not too far away from the lens.
Ultimately, however, the camera is not surprising as positive as other features of the phone.
I summarize the advantages / disadvantages together again:
+ Interesting user interface tailored to newcomers to the smartphone world
+ Long battery runtime
+ Good workmanship
+ Bright screen, the low resolution does not interfere so as feared
+ SD card slot
+ FM radio
+ Android 4.3
+ LED flash
o camera only be described as ok (in relation to the price)
But:
A lot of praise, yet only 4 stars is the one or other issues now. The reason is that there are competing models, the price is not far away is currently the Y530 and offer more features. So the G525 is also Huawei will cost only slightly more, has a better resolution display, twice the memory, quad-core processor and dual-SIM and only because of the recent Android version is the Y530 here in my opinion the worse choice. Who can currently still pay a little more money / wants of should also watch the Moto G Motorola. Here you get more for your money Smartphone, including HD display.
Conclusion:
Great entry level smartphone with a nice user interface that makes it easier to get started working and smoothly. You get a lot for your money with good smartphone battery life, clean lines and good acoustics. Only the camera is at best average. However, there are other models in the same price range are and provide more facilities for almost the same price (Huawei G525) or only a little more cost (Moto G).
Therefore, there is the 5 star from me only when the phone has fallen below 100 EUR mark, because then the price-performance ratio is much better, until then you should compare well with those alternatives.
However, the Y530 also shows: It may not always be high-end you get for little money, a lot of smart phone
Update:
The price is now below one hundred euro. Therefore there is the 5th star because of the now good value. The smart phone is not a high flyer in everyday life, but that you can expect at the price either. However, it is a good, effective entry into the smartphone world.
