Cassandra Clare's new trilogy, The Infernal Devices, set in the world of the Nephilim - that is the world of any previously known Clary, Jace, Alec, Simon, etc. (Who does not know: The Mortal Instruments series). But in addition to the world and mythology that Clare picks up again, there is very little point in which resemble the two works. The Clockwork Angel, as well as the two successor (The Clockwork Prince and Princess) a prequel, so a story that takes place in TMI even before. Namely in Victorian England. - Even though I had my doubts, I have to admit that the world Clare describes incredibly complex and authentic. The morals of contemporary society, a whole new insight into the world of Shadowhunters, the morality of contemporary society and the consequences on the protagonists. - These are the things that really surprised me.
I had expected to get to read a bland imitation of City of Bones, a second "TMI" series, in which only the names have been changed. But no, there are countless differences. The protagonist, Tessa is absolutely not Clary and Will is by no means Jace. (For various reasons, which would unfortunately spoil the whole story)
When the remaining Nephilim were presented, I was still slightly shocked. Because Jem and Jessamine reminded me for about 2 seconds, the two Light Woods. Until then I realized that Jem (unlike others) Asian, sexually oriented differently (and who is now two bi- or homosexual I will not tell;)), is a violinist and etc. Is clearly prefer fighting. And then there was yet Charlotte, the young director of the Institute and her husband, Henry the somewhat absent-minded and ingenious Erfinger. And where was Simon? Yes, here at last I realized that TID formed a separate row. - Although similarities were present nevertheless. The undeniable would probably Fangehure. B
Clare's style is as always sarcastic, sometimes heartbreaking (you'd think they'd get paid to torment us) and kept in a relatively simple English, the chapters begin with excerpts from poems, novels etc. written in Tessa's era and form a very nice picture. - Every now and then affects but calculated and destroyed when too much you think about it, the fun. ;)
For Clare newbies it may be good to know that the two series that I constantly here (I'm sorry) comparisons, independently or can read it does not matter in what order to read YA novels.
The author published i.Ü. every month excerpts from the as yet unpublished books of the series on their home page and on Twitter, answered tons of questions and is regularly book readings. In March 2011, the next book (City of Fallen Angels, TMI) is in fall 2011. The Clockwork Prince (TID) on the shelves!
