Another hurdle was the activation of my SIM card wg. missing entries in the APNs. There prevailed a gaping void. Under -> Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Mobile networks (last point, ie scroll down) -> Access Point -> New APN contributes to give a, for example web.vodafone.de for Vodafone under APN. Mostly you have to enter only the name and APN, other leave everything. When in doubt, just google or look on Android-Hilfe.de / ask.
On the subject of waterproof: I noticed when attaching the back cover that this can quite easily bend, also on the edge. So be careful not to press brachial! Because then it is with the water tightness certainly over - tested but I did not.
That's it with negative criticism. Because the device itself convinced me fully: the screen resolution is excellent, the size of 3.7-inch diagonal well. Above all, I like that next to the display very little space is needed - there is hardly a smart phone, in which the relationship between screen size and footprint as well (high) as the Defy / Defy +. Of course, the electronic components must be housed somewhere: the thickness is 13 mm. Nevertheless, the Defy does not affect in the least clunky, even special right 'stylish'.
An essential aspect of my decision just for the Defy + was used as Navi while hiking and cycling. These are - in addition to outdoor suitability - 2 things are important:
a) Good GPS reception. That's really great! I have been amazed when I after commissioning in the living room - have launched a maps app and within minutes had a satellite fix - about 2 meters from the patio door. A test out confirmed my subjective impression: I have the app 'GPS Status' on the Defy + and on a HTC launched and both units - held next to each other - in different directions. Respect. Number of satellites displayed accuracy (the value you should never 'literally' take) and the signal quality had the Defy + consistently better values than the HTC (which now is nearly 2 years old however).
b) Long battery life: Even so, I am very satisfied. But you have already take some measures in order to record a track for example a whole day; help most:
- Disable Wifi
- Turn off the display often times, max. Brightness only when necessary;
- Mobile data usage (UMTS) disable, which means of course to use offline maps.
Suitable for this purpose apps are - in order of suitability from beginners to 'professional' (all for free in the Market available):
- Deuter (unfortunately no OSM cards feature: instead of the usual + and - buttons to zoom, take 2 finger - as in the browser).
- RMaps
- Locus
- OruxMaps - leaves nothing to be desired functional, Felt> 100 setting; know everything, you can spend evenings mehere (read manual helps).
To analyze which power-saving measure for the individual usage patterns much brings, I can recommend the widget 'Battery Mix' from the Market. In -> detail> 'List Display' you can see the dates when the battery capacity has changed (in 10% increments).
Positive noticed is my way, and the call clarity - no coincidence, Motorola holds several patents in the field of mobile communications (and was formerly a pioneer in many technologies).
Overall, at least from me a clear recommendation!
