The build quality is okay so far, the buttons are a bit small due to design and fiddly, but work stable. The display has neither a particularly high resolution still special brilliance and looks more like a relic of past times.
The picture quality is moderate - not the tiny sensor, which was still equipped with 10 MP, nor the lens are highly capable. Although the figures show a reasonable color rendering, but are very soft on closer inspection. For the price you can here also not expected. The built-in flash reaches as easily brighteners in backlight or for snapshots up close, for otherwise but nothing, there is no adjustment.
On the subject of settings: These are overall rather poor and limited to scene modes (Night, movement, scenery, etc.). In addition, there is a "Smart" mode, which corresponds to a quasi automatic scene, that is, the camera tries to recognize self, what you want to photograph and selects the appropriate scene mode. This works ... well, reasonably well, but also produces a great deal of waste.
So what remains? A camera with average image quality in an extremely compact housing. Looking for a camera that you can have really always there and does not attach great importance to the image quality, this is the place you. However, this raises an important question: Do we need something like that in a time when almost every mobile phone has an integrated camera for the same target audience, some even with comparable technical specifications? I'm missing here a unique selling point, which justifies a purchase of ST30 as a bridge between smartphones and high-order (at the same time but also more expensive and larger) compact cameras. Therefore - for me personally - a total unfortunately only 2 stars.
