This deluxe edition, called "the great collection" must in my view be preferred to the original edition, although say fans of the original. By its format first: it's a real pleasure to see in large size, the design work: the line is much clearer than in the first edition that looks, when compared cell by cell, to a vulgar more or less blurred photocopy! Moreover, if the design is absolutely not changed (except the cover), colors are for their totally reworked (and lettering), which in my opinion gives full value to this collection. The publisher has not had the good idea to insert the original plate of the first page in "bonus" (with "first drafts" and "Collectors'") which is a pity, but comparing with Unlike the first editions jump nonetheless apparent: summary to dishes and very often arbitrary 60/70 without qualification, it is faced with beautiful colors very close to reality, the summit is probably in boards representing night scenes with lunar aura, degraded shadow on objects, which created a real night atmosphere. The color gradients finesse gives much more volume and presence of reality in short, and we should not complain.

In this eighth volume, humor is very largely based on the original work done by Goscinny on language. It is necessary to be bilingual to appreciate all the subtleties, but as (young) readers are not necessarily all, engineering is how to make people laugh, feeling a quirk of expressions that hits all moves! In fact, it comes from an expression or an English idiom and translate it literally into French, in the order of words. The style effect that occurs most often is the inversion of the adjective in relation to the name. Furthermore, the authors make fun without any malice British traditions in the culinary field in the lifestyle, in behavior and in their physical aspects (they are all redheads), and climatic hazards. Some anachronisms are welcome: the Channel Tunnel, LHD, the Beatles, the double-decker bus. Note (page 9 C2) discrete references to previous albums placed on the shelf of the house of Asterix spiked helmet, sickle gold gladiator helmet and Egyptian sphinx. The humor culminates in two summits: the "vertical" gag and repetitive to the Tower of London and the excellent rugby. However, some elements refer to a much more serious historical past. Past all the personal reasons for success and the Roman invasion that followed in Britain, Roman well recall the behavior of an occupying army curfew imposition, house destruction resistance. Page 20 A2, Jolitorax strikes 4 times on the door (Pom pom pom pom) strongly recalling the generic "This is London" during the second world war ... Page 47 C3, new allusion recalling the British intervention in France for two wars. But we begin and we end up in humor with the gag spun pirates, and the origin of the tradition of tea!
