Big fan of the series "Threshold policeman", I stumbled upon this thriller Volker Kutscher. Although took me because this novel is quite exciting. The story takes place in Berlin in May and June 1929, ie four months before the great crisis of October. We are under the Weimar Republic and the Berlin police face essentially communist demonstrations, "the League of Red Front fighters" but also to clandestine clubs, pornography and drug traffics. The SA (the Nazi assault section) are less visible than the Bolsheviks in early 1929. Thanks to the great crisis, however, the Nazi party resumed the bull by the horns and January 30, 1933, the old Marshal Hindenburg appointed Adolf Hitler as Chancellor of the Reich. Early History: The Commissioner Gereon Rath has just been transferred to the German capital after being stationed in the criminal brigade of Cologne. He finds himself in the vice squad which hardly pleases. There is still a friend in the "castle" the Berlin headquarters of police, chief commissioner Bruno Wolter. A few days after his arrival, a car is fished out of a canal with a corpse inside. It recognizes the Macchabe but said nothing to the Commissioner Wilhelm Böhm. This is a drunken Russian who had messed home. Gideon will parallel to his usual work discreetly investigate the case which seems blocked. He hopes to solve the puzzle and move to the criminal. This thriller really fascinated me because it is full of suspense and very well written. Moreover Volker Kutscher admirably described well the political, criminal and social life of Berlin in the late 1920s. I recommend it without reservation to all lovers. For my part, I will continue reading this German author. Adanson Marco.
