... Exactly what seemed to be the four ousted ex-members Sabaton "sins", "Montelius", "Mullback" and "Myhr" to have thought. Quickly with "Astral Doors" - reinforced frontman "Nils Patrik Johansson" and off you go! The result is a power metal attack that can be proud of, "Civil War" take no prisoners. Of course, the proximity to "Sabaton" can not be denied, but it would be presumptuous of the guys "Civil War" as a copy to refer to that. Not only by the voice of "Nils Patrik Johansson" to "Civil War" stand out from their former band, but the music is all a bit harder and less loaded with pathos. I would "Civil War" described as a mix between "Sabaton", "Jorn" and "Dio", lyrically they also deal mainly with war, the compulsory slaughter and everything that belongs thematically. Still, I would give six Sweden a good deal of autonomy will attest, I did "The Killer Angels" like right away. Already the first song knows how to impress immediately, "King of the Sun" is a midtempo heavy-Stampfer with a very catchy chorus - class! By the second song, "First to Fight", this compact but takes on right away. Whizzing guitars and driving drums, plus the all-illuminating voice of "Nils Patrik Johansson" - that's impressive! As then sounded the first notes of "Saint Patrick's Day", I have the guys from "Civil war" had finally in the bag. A catchy melody and a very catchy chorus nastier draw from this song, definitely one of the highlights of this album! From the same caliber are also "Rome is falling", "I want to rule the universe", "Lucifer's Court", "Brother Judas" and "Gettysburg". These songs are all from the top shelf, Power Metal at its best! "Sons of Avalon" and "My Own Worst Enemy" I would classify in the category "Power Metal attack". Fast-paced tunes, lightning-fast guitars and crashing drums, make sure that these songs mutate into a fast-paced ride, from boredom no trace! To conclude, there still with "Children of the Grave" a real treat. The cover of "Black Sabbath" - classic I find really successful and has me really fun - well done!
My conclusion: "Civil War" surprised me with their debut album in the most pleasant! The six Sweden really play Power Metal at its best, because there is in my view nothing to complain about. Great and catchy melodies and choruses with this special catchy dominate this compact to very impressive way. Whoever the fans of "Jorn Lande", "Ronnie James Dio" and, of course, "Sabaton" matters may have a lot of fun at "The Killer Angels". I liked this album right away and it gets a safe place in my collection! Two thumbs up - great performance!
