I had bought the camera really only as a temporary solution until a digital SLR should be bought.
This is now also done with a Nikon D700.
The Sony DSC-R1 is still with me further in heufigen use and good for the following reasons:
Sony DSC-R1
Positive:
- Large sensor, thereby (also by today's standards yet) and the ability to achieve good Bildqualtität a shallow depth of field
- Albsolut practical for everyday use zoom range of 24-120mm (KB)
- Very ordinary lens performance
- JPEG + RAW storage, which I almost always use the JPEGs that have a very good preparation, yet well reworked are
- Manual zooming (I like the zoom motor not nearly all other modern bridge and compact cameras)
- Noise to ASA400 very good; at 800ASA still useful to rework it (1600-3200 ASA) for my taste only in emergencies
- Rotary swivel monitor for shooting from all walks of life
- Memory card Compact Flash (for me an advantage because the Nikon D700 also uses this type of memory card)
Neutral:
- Weight and Size
- Autofocus speed and accuracy (here you could tell that the camera is a bit dated, but who is not specialized in snapshots and / or sports photography, so can still live well)
Negatives:
- Battery is charged in the camera
- Viewfinder (electronic), this solves quite low on
Conclusion:
As already described above very suitable for everyday use with excellent picture quality up to 400 ASA and class lens.
The negative aspects are to get over and fall for me not so much weight.
I use the camera still very often - more often than my Nikon D700!
5 stars by the sum of advantages, the individual properties can many camera models significantly afford more
