Because that is what this is: a concept. But I will not further elaborate on this theme because everyone must do his own experience of what Maxime Chattam proposes ;-) This book is a journey into the psyche of a sociopath. Cold, clinical and uncompromising. It is an atmosphere of "King" already mentioned by other readers. This book, these are terrible and disturbing scenes. It is also a reflection on the nature of evil and its origins, a recurring theme dear to the author. I find it really stands out of many thrillers I read. But like everything that is innovative, this book can only be subject to controversy, provoke extreme reactions, shared. Even disappoint the faithful of the author, I can understand that. Just as I respect that readers be too put off by unhealthy violence of certain scenes. For my part, I bow to the boldness and mastery of Maxime Chattam because it takes what it dares to venture here ... I hope many readers will come to pass beyond the darkness first to see what is really different in this book :)
