What made me finally to switch over to the 500D, were really only 2 points, but have it all:
Firstly, the significantly expanded ISO range up to 12,800 in conjunction with the new signal processor Digic. 4
Higher ISO numbers than 1600 were previously only the one u. Two-digit Canon cameras reserved. With a little reworking
are on the PC even photos with ISO 6400 still useful, especially if you want to make any poster-size prints of them.
Secondly, the much higher resolution and better anti-glare monitor with 920,000 (sub-) pixels which a VGA resolution
equivalent and now excellent sharpness evaluation just allow in Live View. So saw the photos on my previous 230,000 pixel display actually always sharp from until at home on the PC monitor then the truth came to light.
The video mode is a nice addition for me, so it was not so very crucial. Will probably only really interesting if you can take on aperture and shutter influence, as in the EOS 5D MK II. Perhaps gibt`s yes for the EOS 500D soon a firmware update.
Thus arose for me only the question: EOS 500D or EOS 50D?
From my experience with the EOS 40D, I of course know that the EOS 50D in the operation, processing and overall performance
(And unfortunately also in the price) is a whole step above the EOS 500D.
But already my EOS 40D often times stay at home and the small Canon had to defer (particularly
if you are traveling with the kids), the choice fell on the EOS 500D.
Have I still the original Canon battery grip BG-E5 ordered additionally and find that this combination an excellent
Compromise between performance (BG-E5 turn) and "Everywhere-quality take-away" (BG-E5) is.
