Granted, on the camera makes the size and weight of the flash very noticeable. But who flirts with this lightning wants to make any possible compromise on quality when shooting more!
As Aufsteckblitz is the 580EX II with E-TTL II with my Canon EOS 5D a remarkable double. In many situations the 580 EX II light illuminated for perfect portraits or group photos makes.
Also called Master & Slave I use these flashes in combination with stand and screen as a lightweight, portable studio. The large Elinchrom flash system I only get out if I have to really illuminate large areas.
Even though I'm not a big fan of reading manuals, so you should contact already with all the settings of the flash apart to achieve truly great results. Especially this applies to the use of the Master & Slave operation. Here you can appeal to the lightning as different groups and with different intensities.
Pro:
- High performance
- Intelligent exposure for perfectly illuminated images!
- HiSpeed synchronization so you much faster than that in the camera preset sync speed of 1/200 or 1/250 sec. can trigger (important for portraits with open aperture!)
- Very solid and dust / waterproof encapsulated
- Very good flash output with a single battery charge
- Good display with illumination
- Good AF assist illuminator
- Master & Slave control via IR in more than one group possible
- Manual adjustment of flash intensity and angle
- Wide wheel and bounce card integrated.
- Very good horizontal and vertical adjustment via one-button Ent / lock.
- Flash foot with tripod socket supplied with it.
Cons:
- No lightweight
- Because of a few buttons, you have to be familiar with the setting modes already, so the flash does what you want (practice, practice, practice);)
- The remote triggering is only possible via IR. If one of the flashes is so placed so that it does not have visual contact with the others, he does not fire. An additional photocell, I would have still wanted in this top device. So one would have to resort to an expensive radio solution.
Conclusion:
For the mobile flash with Canon EOS cameras the 580 EX II is my first choice. I'll still buy me a third 580'er because it is an ingenious and mobile use alternative for me in the indoor portrait area with stands and umbrellas.
