The new USB 3.0 standard is using the HDD testing tools CrystalDiskMark at least potential:
USB 2.0: Read: 32.51 MB / s Write: 32.51 MB / s
USB 3.0: Read: 113.3 MB / s Write: 86.23 MB / s
Intern (the same Samsung F3 1TB via SATA II) Read: 140 MB / s Write: 131.5 MB / s
Apparently the Raidcontroller the IcyBox slows somewhat. There also may be caused by insufficient Mobo and my technical understanding this, I would be reluctant to lean too far out of the window and highlighting this point is negative. Moreover, since the box is only for external data backup used me are the read and write speeds more than enough.
The real problem is the pretty IcyBox my opinion elsewhere. I bought despite the knowledge of the small, rear fan, in the hope that the volume of the aspects of the use will be fine. But after the first time you turn entered disillusionment. The small 40x40x10mm fan was immediately tidy gas (which is understandable for the size) and produced a decent noise. The volume is not so high that you can not tolerate the minute, but can be as little, no matter how much you are distracted ignore. Because you can not just disconnect the fan in two densely packed hard drives, I came close the box to give back. Given the practical value, but I first examined by a practical problem-solving, which I eventually found.
I got me a 2 to 3-Pin Molex fan adapter and could thus no loss of warranty the original fan by a 120mm Scythe Slipstream SY1225SL12SLersetzen. Since the large case fans can be found in the poor IcyBox place, he is external, in front of the box and blows cold air through the housing. This is in my opinion a much quieter, the reason almost soundless and much more effective solution to the HDD cooling. This solution I can imagine so permanently (the way a compliment to Samsung for the very quiet F3). In a warranty case, the old fans are easily reconnected.
Of course it should be clear that every human noise and volume a bit perceives differently, but I can not imagine that there is someone who would call in spite of a good hearing, this Raidbox in its original state as quiet me.
All in all I can say summarized that I am quite satisfied with this solution of data backup. I recommend anyone who RaidSonic try and make up quietly when needed. Fan plus cable together cost no 12th
